Clinical Trial Experience

In the U.S., 28% of the population is black or Hispanic, yet these communities make up only 6% of clinical trial volunteers. Diverse trial populations are vital, as ethnicity not only affects how diseases progress, but also how we respond to medications.

Challenge

Sanofi and the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) asked us to create an experience that would encourage greater participation in clinical trials from a more diverse population by bringing this crucial issue to the very heart of the community.

Solution

To show the importance of clinical trials in creating life-saving medications, we opened a pharmacy with a difference – it was completely empty. We asked visitors to fill the shelves with medicines they felt their family and friends most needed, demonstrating how individuals working together can help bring drugs to market.

Results

  • 550 people visited the store in just 2 days

  • 250% increase in attendance at CISCRP’s secondary event

  • 84% of attendees said they would participate in future clinical trials
